Committed to improving Medical Imaging techniques and patient outcomes, MDI Radiology has an active research program. This focuses around various aspects of medicine, including: Urogenital (Kidneys, Bladder, Prostate, etc.) Imaging, Musculoskeletal Imaging and Intervention, Small parts Ultrasound, and Plastic surgery outcomes.
MDI Radiology Malvern is a world luminary site for Philips Ultrasound, with new technology continuously being assessed at Malvern. In addition, Ultrasound Contrast Agents and newer methods of imaging Kidney abnormalities with Ultrasound and CT scanning are also being evaluated. Better means of imaging the musculoskeletal system (joints and soft tissues) are also being investigated, as are ways of helping diagnose Thyroid disease. This research is led by Dr Alain Lavoipierre (Director of Radiology) and Mr Mark Smyth (Ultrasound Co-ordinator). Papers have been published and will continue to appear, as well as presentations being made on a regular basis, at local and International forums.
EDUCATIONIn addition, MDI Radiology has a strong philosophy of continuing medical education, both “in-house” and for outside referrers. On a weekly basis, Dr David Pryde presents “interesting and challenging cases” for his fellow Radiologists. He has also actively promoted education for General Practitioners, with his Which Test to Request pamphlet as well as a new pamphlet on radiation protection, and is currently working on a CD-ROM. Most of the MDI Radiologists lecture both at a Post Graduate and at a Graduate level. Sister Margaret Wright, a Post Graduate Radiology nurse, also gives regular seminars. Several of the MDI Radiologists have held positions as University lecturers and Dr Gary Lawler has been a visiting Radiologist and lecturer at Royal Melbourne Hospital for many years.
