As a medical Doctor who specialises in diagnosing and treating disease and injury by using medical imaging techniques, your Radiologist plays an important role in your health. These days, your Radiologist will have completed at least 13 years of training, which include medical school at university, a year of internship, at least one year of junior residency and 4 years as a registrar, often followed by 1-2 years of a fellowship in specialised training.
Your Radiologist is also at the forefront of medical imaging technology through all the advances which occur in this specialty and also through the continued growth of minimally invasive procedures. As technology grows, so does the importance of your Radiologist in healthcare.
Your Radiologist is available to your referring doctor - and therefore to you - by interpreting the resulting medical images and in using test results to recommend further examinations or treatments. Furthermore, your Radiologist will often personally examine you or discuss findings with you when appropriate.
