Fee and Billing Policy

MDI Radiology is a private Radiology company. As the Medicare rebate does not reasonably reflect the cost of providing a radiology service, an out of pocket expense is incurred. Some examinations (e.g. biopsies, surgical procedures and injections) will incur an additional small fee for consumables used (e.g. syringes, contrast) as once again the Medicare rebate does not cover the cost of these examinations.

Patient rebates for radiology services have not been indexed for increasing costs such as staffing, utilities and other costs associated with the provision of radiology services since 1997. As a result, many patients are having to pay a higher contribution to the cost of providing radiology services.

Please note that an account for any specimens that are taken will be sent to you from a Pathology company (e.g. Tissupath, Gribbles or Melbourne Pathology), which is separate to your account with MDI Radiology. None of these companies have a business relationship with MDI Radiology.

Pensioners and Health Care card holders will be bulk billed for all items covered under the Medicare schedule, although some high cost items, surgical procedures and examinations not covered under Medicare may incur a small cost. Please present your entitlement card on arrival at the clinic.

If you are entitled to repatriation benefits your account will be directly billed to the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Please present your entitlement card on arrival at the clinic. Please direct inquiries to the clinic you have been referred to.

For advice concerning an account relating to a Transport Accident Commission or WorkCover claim, please contact our reception staff.

We accept cash, EFTPOS, cheque or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, AMEX & Diners Club).

You are required to make the gap payment.
Our staff will make an Online Claim to Medicare for you, and you will be given a copy of the account and a copy of the Medicare lodgement. Medicare will send you a cheque in the mail. Please then send this cheque along with the remittance advice, and any gap payment owing to the below address. You can also pay in person at any of our MDI Radiology branches.
